Date of Crime
In the early hours of Thursday, March 2nd, two unknown suspects broke into two liquor stores in Port Alberni. The two male suspects first attended to a liquor store in the 2900 block of Alberni Highway and tried to kick in the doors to gain entry. They were able to enter a storage room but unable to access the sales area, where the liquor is kept.
A short time later at 1 am, the two suspects arrived at another liquor store located in the 5000 block of Johnston Rd. Here, the suspects backed a van through the front doors smashing them to gain entry. Once inside, the suspects stole several bottles of liquor, including some Texas Mickey sized bottles. The suspects then fled the scene in the stolen green Dodge Caravan leaving a trail of broken glass behind them. The suspects caused $9000 in damages.
The stolen van was later located in the alley between 4th and 5th Ave near Argyle St. with some of the stolen liquor found inside the vehicle. As the suspects fled the stolen van, one man was seen running toward Argyle St. and 3rd Ave.
One suspect is described as a thin man wearing a black winter jacket, a balaclava and jeans. The second man was heavy set, wearing a black, grey and white checkered jacket with a black hoodie and jeans.
