Crime Stoppers needs your help in solving the following crimes:
In a 2 month period, the Port Alberni RCMP have responded to at least 10 reports of TELUS property being broken into, stolen, damaged or vandalized. This criminal activity is affecting more than just TELUS, it’s affecting their customers and the community of Port Alberni as well.
During the night of September 30th, an unknown suspect vandalized the TELUS building using spray paint.
Between October 12th and December 2nd, the TELUS building and its compound in the 4000 block of 6th Ave have been broken into 6 times. In some of these cases, TELUS vehicles parked in the compound were also broken into and various tools and equipment stolen. It appears that in some of these instances the suspect or suspects may have left a vehicle parked nearby as they entered the TELUS property.
On November 1st, someone cut down a tree around the 5 km marker of Lacy Lake Rd and Loon Lake Main Rd causing it to fall and take out the TELUS lines. It appears that this action was a deliberate act to down the TELUS lines.
Then sometime on November 28th large sections of cable were stolen from a work site on Loon Lake Main logging road. Both aerial and fiber optic cable were stolen causing an outage for many customers. This one act of theft alone cost approximately $4000 to replace and repair the cables. The stolen cables themselves were worth a small fraction of that amount and the fiber optic cable has no salvage value.
