Date of Crime
Theft of Carvings from Bamfield
Sometime in August the “Welcome to Bamfield” sign erected on Bamfield Road upon entering Bamfield village has been vandalized on at least two occasions with irreplaceable carvings stolen from it.
The sign is a focal point to all entering the Bamfield area and it had four small carvings on it that surrounded a map of the area. The carvings included a Stellar Jay, an eagle, a bear and a tree. Sadly, the only remaining carving is the tree. The eagle and the bear are the latest carvings to be stolen from the sign. The sign and its carvings were made by Al Porter, who was an area resident at the time, and they were his artistic legacy to the community of Bamfield. Now the community and its residents are seeking answers as to what happened and want to get the artwork back. The Bamfield Community Affairs Society is offering a reward. (see attached poster).
If anyone has any information on this or any other crime, they are asked to contact the Port Alberni Detachment at 250-723-2424 or the Alberni Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
