Crime Stoppers needs your help in solving the following crimes:
Thieves continue to target vehicles and are now also looking to steal your catalytic converter.
During the overnight hours of Tuesday February 18th, unknown suspects cut the catalytic converter off an older model Ford van parked in a parking lot in the 3500 block of Johnston Rd. Later the same day between 6 am and 4:30 pm a newer GMC pickup truck was the target while it was parked in the 3300 block of Johnston Rd. The catalytic converter thieves struck a third time sometime between Thursday February 27th at 2 pm and Friday February 28th at 9:30 am. This time a Toyota pickup truck parked in the 2300 block of 8th Ave was the target.
In the overnight hours of Monday February 24th, an unknown suspect climbed the fence and broke into two vehicles parked in the locked compound of GD Auto located in the 3600 block of 3rd Ave. The suspect smashed the windows out of two vehicles parked within. In this case, the suspect is heavy set and was wearing all black clothing.
A further nine reports of theft from vehicle were received between March 4th and 7th in various areas throughout Port Alberni. The Port Alberni RCMP remind all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicle is kept locked and that all items are removed from it to deter would-be thieves.
